Hypnosis Hypntotherapy
With the access to information that we enjoy today, it’s not difficult to find out about the therapeutic benefits of hypnosis. Hypnotherapy should only be practiced by licensed psychologists, physicians, psychiatrists and counselors who use it to treat eating disorders, sleep problems, depression, post-traumatic stress, compulsive gaming, stress and so on. More recently, hypnotherapy is used for weight management, anger control and quit smoking. The hypnotic trance in itself does not have any healing or therapeutic properties. The suggestions made to the subconscious mind while in trance have the therapeutic potential, influencing behavior for the better.
People should also be aware that there is a dark side of hypnosis. Hypnotherapy research conducted in laboratories has created temporary compulsions, memory loss, false memory, hallucinations and even delusions. These phenomena were induced for the sake of study and in a controlled environment, yet, their existence clearly points out to the fact that when practiced in the wrong way, hypnosis could be dangerous and harmful to people. Nobody should play with the unconscious particularly since there are so many things that we don’t understand.
Did you know that there are some special types of hypnosis? Hypnotherapy has nothing to do with covert hypnosis, for instance, which is used as a persuasive and manipulation tactic. The practice is disreputable and deserves serious criticism. Yet, in the rush for profit, many executives, business managers and sales people manipulate their clients into business transactions that they suggestion on the subtle levels of the unconscious. The target of covert hypnosis believe that the idea is their own, and they do not resist to it, acting in fact the way the hypnotist desired.
Some people are reluctant to using hypnosis, hypnotherapy or self-hypnosis to improve their lives. It is totally understandable that one does not one to feel vulnerable and under the control of another human being even that person is a specialist. I would personally not allow anybody to toy with my mind. However, there are dire circumstances where pain, depression and phobias are so difficult to keep under control and live with, that hypnosis (hypnotherapy) becomes the only solution.
The best thing to do here to minimize the risks of being hypnotized is to go to a professional with lots of experience in hypnotherapy. Your doctor should be able to refer you to someone you can trust. Even so do not start the session with someone that you don’t trust or feel uncomfortable with.
